jstorm
Eleven birders made the trip to Plum Island and Salisbury Beach State
Reservation on a pleasant day in the 40’s. While rain showers were often
visible, they never interfered with the birding. A total of 44 species
were seen, including a group of 60 Brant, 3 Mute Swans, a Northern
Shoveler, 6 Gadwall, 28 Northern Pintail, 4 Great Cormorants, 2 Rough-
legged Hawks, 2 Snowy Owls, a Merlin, and 6 Horned Larks. Signs of spring
were evident as Song Sparrows, American Tree Sparrows, Northern Cardinals,
and Carolina Wrens were singing. Other signs of spring were four turtles
out for the sun and a beaver swimming across a pond. (John Berry, author)
