SUMMARY:Field Trip: SATURDAY\, MAY 18 OR SUNDAY\, MAY 19\, 5:00 A.M. – ?
DESCRIPTION:Field Trip: Big Day by Bike\, Brunswick\nLanding\nIf you have a bicycle–a regular\nbike\, ebike\, or even an etrike (for us\nseniors!)–and you enjoy birding\,\nthis is the trip for you. Our goal\nis to exceed 100 bird species by\nday’s end. To make an informed\ndecision concerning your potential\nparticipation\, please review the\nfollowing:\n1. Since good weather conditions\nare desired for a successful Big Day\,\non the Wednesday before the Big Day\nweekend\, the trip leader will choose\neither Saturday or Sunday for this\ntrip. To know which day has been\nchosen for the Big Day\, please check\nthe Merrymeeting website (https://\nmerrymeeting.maineaudubon.org)\nor contact the trip leader.\n2. The Big Day by Bike trip will\ntake place entirely within the confines\nof Brunswick Landing (former Naval\nAir Station) and will include paved\nroads and gravel/dirt paths (not\nmountain bike trails). Therefore\,\ngravel or “fat” tires (not road tires) are\ndesired for your bike.\n3. A bike helmet will be required to\nbe worn while riding. No exceptions!\n4. Expect to ride 25+ miles on\nmostly flat terrain. However\, the pace\nwill be slow at times\, as we will be\nstopping frequently to observe and/\nor hear birds.\n5. Bring water/lunch/snacks\,\nouterwear based on the weather\,\nsunscreen\, and tick/mosquito\nrepellent.\n6. Since we will be viewing the\nairfield\, as well as Harpswell Cove\,\nit may be helpful to bring along a\nsmall birding scope that can be safely\nstowed on your bike.\n7. Since 3 or 4 species of owls are\ndesired for the Big Day list\, the trip\nleader (and anyone who desires to\nride along) is planning to ride out\nat 3:00 a.m. (bike headlight and/or\nflashlight required) to listen for owls.\nIf you are planning to come along to\nlisten for owls\, please confirm with\nthe trip leader.\n8. Anyone can leave or join the Big\nDay group at any time during the day.\nHowever\, please notify the leader\nwhen you leave\, or join\, the group.\n9. Meet at 5:00 a.m. at the\nBrunswick Landing Perimeter Trail\,\nPine Street entrance. FMI Gordon\nSmith 449-8206 (text or call).
