DESCRIPTION:Maine Bird Atlas Breeding Bird Survey—\nParticipate in a citizen science project to survey breeding birds. This 167-acre property\, owned by the Town of Freeport\, consists of a large shallow pond and surrounding forest habitat suitable for waterfowl and a variety of land birds. We will walk the trails surrounding the pond (up to 2.5 miles total) looking and listening for breeding birds. Wear footwear suitable for occasional wet and muddy areas.Windy and/or rainy weather conditions will cause this event to be cancelled. DESCRIPTION:This trip is run jointly by MMAS and KELT. Thorne Head overlooks Whiskeag Creek and is located on the Maine Birding Trail. The preserve is rich in vireos and warblers. The paths provide easy walking under a canopy of mature trees.
